Running a photography business can feel incredibly isolating. The majority of wedding photographers are completely self-taught, which means it’s completely up to you to learn how to navigate the technical side of the business, balance a business account, market yourself, create a sustainable workflow, be consistent on social media, ensure your branding aligns with your values, and actually differentiate yourself enough to be successful in the industry. 

When I first started my business 12 years ago, I absorbed as much information as I could from social media, articles, books, portfolios, and business owners in the industry I considered to be successful. But it was all incredibly overwhelming. I didn’t know how to level up, what success actually looked like, how to reach my ideal clients, or which direction I truly wanted to go. Watching every one else appear so successful and have everything figured out is a lonely place to be when you’re trying to fit all of the nuggets of advice and information you’ve gleaned into a homemade business plan.

As I navigated the industry over the past decade, I made many mistakes, took risks that paid off, and fell completely in love with documenting weddings. But my success involved much more than simply having a good eye for photography and loving love. Which is why I created the Alignment Mentorship series. So you can fall in love with being a business owner while connecting with your ideal clients, staying true to your creative vision and success, and actually making money to support your life.

The goal is to feel more steady, confident, and excited about the direction you’re going, with help and advice from a true advocate along the way. There are no off-limit topics or gatekeeping. I want your success as much as you do. <3

I’m Kristen.

A West Michigan-based entrepreneur and photographer with over a decade of full time experience documenting couples in love. I’ve traveled around the world photographing weddings and have been published in magazines, but my most prized accolade is the love and appreciation from my past wedding couples.

Throughout my 12 years in business, I’ve learned so much about photography, business, client care, finances, entrepreneurship, mental health, and have made a lot of mistakes along the way. Building a sustainable business in the wedding and photography industry is not a feat for the faint of heart and requires passion, guts, risk, talent, and a unique way of viewing the world. But if successful, it’s one of the most rewarding businesses you’ll have the opportunity to experience.

I began coaching entrepreneurs a decade ago and quickly realized I love helping others succeed as much as I love serving my clients. Since then, I’ve become an advocate for business owners becoming successful and fulfilled in both business and life. THE ALIGNMENT MENTORSHIP

Deciding to mentor with Kristen is probably one the best decisions I’ve made in my photography business so far. While I was preparing for my first session I really only wanted to talk about posing and attracting my ideal client. We ended up talking about my website and pricing structure, and YOU GUYS. It was EXACTLY what I needed and I didn’t even realize it. She opened my eyes to so much and made so much sense, that I finished the session with a spinning head, but in all the right ways. It left me with a new sense of focus and direction, confidence, and excitement. She still addressed all the questions I originally had, but she really kind of found what I needed the most work on and asked if I minded her going over it, and I’m so glad I said yes!

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or trying to “do everything right” but nothing seems to be working. If you’ve been in the industry for years and feeling burnt out. Or if you desire ongoing support in order to feel more aligned with your business goals and creative work. I’m naturally a deep thinker so I’ll observe patterns both in your work and in the way you’re moving through your business. The goal is for our sessions to be deeply personal and completely catered to your specific wants. I take a holistic approach to coaching which takes into account you as a human as much as your business. My goal is for you to have a better sense of direction, confidence, and clarity that resonates on a deep level.

This is not “book 10 weddings overnight” or a step-by-step how-to coaching, but a deeper, more intentional support that leaves you feeling more confident and aligned in the direction you desire for your business. Photographers often leave sessions with a new sense of clarity and enthusiasm for next steps.

That is completely okay, and sometimes ideal! We can work through your process, your work, and things will naturally be uncovered as we talk through details. The majority of my clients go into a session thinking they want to cover a certain topic, but the focus often evolves during our conversation.

Every session is different, as every individual, business, and goals are different. It also varies depending on where you are in the mentorship timeline. But we’ll start by getting to know you, your business, and move into what your sticking points or goals are. From there, we’ll work through tangible shifts to build clarity and confidence moving forward or between sessions.

Glow & Alignment Mentorships are 6 months of ongoing support throughout the mentorship period. In addition to monthly deep-dive sessions, I also host specific Mentoring Monday office hours which allows you to contact me via email, messaging, or voice note so I’m able to extend real-time support and refinement throughout the month. The Momentum Edit clients are also able to receive weekly office hour support during their 8 week mentorship.

Absolutely not. Whether you’re about to photograph your first professional session or burnt out after your 300th wedding, we’ll tailor the session to your specific needs and experience level.

I offer a limited number of Alignment Mentorships so I am able to focus on depth and experience for each of my clients. Applications are available at limited times during the year and will close when my limit is met. Clarity and Momentum Edit sessions are available throughout the year, but are also subject to limited availability depending on my personal client schedule. If the specific offering is not listed in the contact form dropdown, that option is closed for the time being.

I am a full time, active wedding photographer. My coaching is based on my real life, every day business experience.

You’re in the right place! The anxiety you’re feeling right now just means that this is important to you. That’s a positive thing! The conversation will be relaxed and at your own pace. While I am a professional, successful entrepreneur, I am equally as down to earth, and very easy to talk to. You’re welcome to take a break at any time if you need it, or we can breathe through the anxiety together. <3

Absolutely! The majority of all my weddings are shot entirely on film. I’m extremely passionate about analog photography and would love to help you get started.
